I began my yoga journey in 2018. For me, my initial interest in yoga was born out of a need to find a meditative and well-being practice to help me through some particularly difficult mental health issues I was dealing with at the time. Committing to a regular yoga and meditation practice helped me to recognise my habitual toxic patterns which I was using as an emotional crutch to avoid dealing head-on with the real issues in my life.
Fast forward to the present day and I have been practising yoga daily since 2018. My daily practice has changed and does not always look the same, but there is a consistency to my practice which gives me stability and grounding to my day to day life.
Through my own experiences with yoga, I firmly believe that; if it is embraced fully and embodied as a full life practice rather than just a fitness modality; yoga has the ability to completely turn anyone’s life around. The mental clarity that is gained from a committed practice, combined with the breathing techniques that Pranayama teaches us and the fixed focus that is learnt when holding your body in difficult postures; begins to condition the mind, body and spirit in such a way to allow you to deal with anything that you may encounter in life, with strength, grace and humility.
My personal practice is focused on Ashtanga Yoga; a traditional lineage of yoga where participants learn a set sequence of postures and follow that sequence 6 days a week. Often my practice is on my own, first thing in the morning before my family wake. However, I try to get over to the practice with the community at Ashtanga Yoga York at least once a week too.
In 2021 I began a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training course; qualifying in October 2022. I took the course at the Yoga Studio & Training Academy in Hull, and would highly recommend anyone who is interested in deepening their knowledge of yoga to look into this course!
My classes take a lot from my Ashtanga practice and many elements from the sequences I am learning for my personal practice find their way into my taught sessions too. However my teacher training also gave me a strong grounding in yoga as a therapeutic method as well as a number of other styles of yoga practice. This means that I am able to individually tailor yoga classes for any individual, based upon their needs and requirements.
I would love to work with you to show you what I have learnt and how yoga can help your mind, body and spirit too! Get in touch today to find out how I can help you on your journey!
